A Joker & Harley Spinoff In The Works And It Is Set In The "Justice League" Universe. What The F*ck DC?

The dust from yesterday's news of the Joker origin story that won't be part of the "Justice League Universe" hasn't even settled and the folks over at Warner Bros and DC are determined to confound things even further. According to THR, Crazy, Stupid, Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in talks to both write and direct an upcoming spinoff for the Joker and Harley Quinn. And yes, it will star Jared Leto and Margot Robbie. The fuck?

Insiders say that the plan is for this feature to go after the studio makes a sequel to Suicide Squad. The latter is on the development fast-track and out to directors. But the Joker and Harley Quinn movie is also moving fast as Warners has to contend with actors' holding agreements, say sources. The film is described as a “criminal love story,” according to one source, featuring the two murdering maniacs who are cornerstones in the Batman mythos. One insider offered this: "an insane and twisted love story. When Harry Met Sally on benzedrine." Additionally, the project falls within Warners' main line of movies based on their DC properties. That includes the current pics released and in production that feature Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, among other characters who collectively form the Justice League.

Oh wow! I cannot wait to see Joker and Harley meets Natural Born Killers... Presumably, this film will replace the rumored Gotham City Sirens, which means between this movie and Suicide Squad 2, we're in for a hell of a lot more of Jared Leto as Joker.

I realize that for the vast majority of you reading this, differentiating between different versions of the same people across the multiverse is not a new concept, so this likely won't be all that big of a deal for you in terms of keeping them separate. If you've seen any of the CW shows or read anymore than 3 issues of one of the big 2's comics (Marvel or DC), you're an expert on the subject. But what about the average moviegoer who comprise the bulk of the audience?

Without even establishing the existence of the multiverse in the canon of the Justice League films, just launching right into films featuring characters from a parallel universe feels like a mistake. Between the films that feature the 30 Seconds To Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime and the Scorsese Joker, some folks are going to be a bit confused, some will be pissed and then there's us; nestled in the right in the meaty center.

At this point, judging by the amount of hacky cosplays the world has been inundated with of Joker and Harley, it's not very surprising the studio is doing all it can to milk these characters for all the money their worth, for as long as they can.

So, hold tight friends. This silly shit looks to continue for some time to come. Meanwhile, we'll try to hold on to the dwindling hope that WB/DC gets their collective shit together and deliver the movies we all want and by this point, we deserve them.
