Hello nerds!

Following the success of IT and Hulu’s Castle Rock, Since Stephen King is hot right now and in continuing the trend, one of his scariest films is getting rebooted.

The reboot of 1989’s from horror icon Stephen King Pet Sematary is shaping up to be a real treat for fans of scary ass movies. Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, the writers and directors of Starry Eyes, are serving those same roles for this film and for those unfamiliar, the story is disturbing.

Pet Sematary is about a doctor and his family, the Creeds, as they relocate to rural Maine from Chicago and while learning to live in the country, they discover an evil lurking in their very own backyard. The story hits all of King’s favorite subjects by way of drama, psychic kids, the supernatural and creepy ass animals.

Well, courtesy of EW, we’ve got a batch of images from the film which gives us our first look at the rebooted versions of the original 1989 film starring Fred Gwynne, Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby and Miko Hughes. However, it’s the first image of the Creed’s cat Church, the first creepy ass animal we’re introduced to in this story, that invokes a truly eerie feeling in the pit of my stomach.

You see, poor Church gets mowed down by a big rig and is then resurrected, but sometimes dead is better. Especially, when the resurrected are not themselves, but something a bit evil. And with that being said, may I introduce you to what I’m assuming is Church post-flattening by truck.

That’s one mangy ass feline and he appears to be smothered in “beyond the grave”. How charming. But seriously, it’s a pretty creepy image and from the looks of the other images from the film, this reboot could actually be worth a trip to the cinema.

As much as I like the original film and detail-laden novel, I'm damn intrigued by this movie. Most reboots simply fail to improve upon the original, but much like IT, Pet Sematary could be great. And it had better be, considering the original film is one of King’s best novel-to-film translations to date.

The original film absolutely crushed the make-up FX, and with some really solid performances from about 90% of the cast, the original Pet Sematary today still stands as a truly terrifying film that will be hard to do better. Having said that, with a cast and crew like this behind it, this movie might warrant a trip to the cinema.
