Exit Light, Enter Netflix! Neil Gaiman's Sandman Is Headed To TV

Hello nerds!

Well, it’s taken many years and several driving forces, but finally an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's widely celebrated graphic novel, The Sandman, is headed to the small screen. Does anyone know if Keanu Reeves is available?

For those unfamiliar, the DC/Vertigo comic told the tale of the Morpheus aka Dream, one of the seven Endless; the Endless (Dream, Death, Destiny, Desire, Despair, Delirium, and Destruction) are timeless siblings who rule over the realms they share their names with. Kind of like gods.

Well, after being wrongly imprisoned and escaping, Dream has to fix all that has happened in his realm during his absence, and recover his lost objects of power. And being a Neil Gaiman story, this tale is a blend of mythology and the history, as it weaves between fantasy and reality in amazing ways. It’s the dog’s bollocks, and I’m very interested in seeing it adapted for live-action.

The author himself, Neil Gaiman, shared how many episodes we can expect of the first season and even revealed the exact material from Morpheus’ saga it will focus on.

Nice. If Netflix is looking for a big fantasy series to fill the dragon-sized Game Of Thrones hole in our lives, they’ve found it in The Sandman.

This is a story that has tried to be developed several times before, and they all failed for one simple reason. There’s too much story to tell in just a couple of hours. A multi-season series is the only way to do it justice. With Allan Heinberg writing and showrunning, and Gaiman and David S. Goyer executive producing, all the pieces are coming together for what could be a truly amazing bit of storytelling.

And there’s even a brief synopsis of the series, which is sure to entice fans of the comic.
