Felicity Goes Galactic? Keri Russell Joins Star Wars Episode IX
Hello nerds!
We can add Star Wars: Episode IX to the growing list of projects JJ Abrams and the star of one of his most beloved properties, Felicity, have worked on together.
According to reports, Keri Russell is set to join the cast of the forthcoming Star Wars film, which is being re-written and directed by JJ Abrams. She's a welcomed addition to an already great cast that features Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac. Russell and Abrams have a long history of working together on various projects and for good reason.
Russell brings an impressive resume along with her to the Star Wars Universe; most recently, a fantastic performance on the acclaimed FX show The Americans. With the loss of the great Carrie Fisher, Episode IX is in dire need of strong female leads to compliment Daisy Ridley, so we can probably expect to see Russell heavily featured in the last chapter to the Skywalker saga. The only real question is which will she be "good" or "bad"?
Per the report, "The role calls for action-heavy fight scenes.", so smart money says Russell will be a big deal to whichever side of The Force she falls to. Go team Rebel, right? Russell has the range to pull off being a badass in the First Order or The Rebellion. Smashingly.
I know Episode IX doesn't hit theaters until December 2019, but don't let that spoil the fun of speculating whom Russell will be playing. Any guesses?
Production is set to begin in the U.K in a few weeks.
