From Gallifrey To A Galaxy Far, Far Away. Matt Smith Joins Star Wars:Episode IX!

Hello nerds!

And the hits just keep on coming. Hot on the heels of the announcement Dominic Monaghan will reunite with J.J. Abrams for Star Wars: Episode IX, we get another spectacular cast addition.

According to Variety, Matt Smith has signed on for a "key role" in Star Wars: Episode IX. The words, "Fuck yeah" leap to the front of my mind. Sadly, no details about which side of The Force he'll be on, but it doesn't really matter.

Smith is no stranger to Sci-Fi/Drama/Comedy from his time as the beloved Time Lord in Doctor Who and as Prince Charles in The Crown. The former Doctor's casting in Episode IX is an inspired bit of casting.  Smith brings a fantastic presence to this movie and quite honestly, he's long overdue for a run in a big budget Hollywood film. No, Terminator Genisys does not count. My only hope is Matt Smith shares some screentime with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher or Billy Dee Williams. I would love to see The Doctor face to face with one of the remaining OG cast members; Luke Skywalker being my top choice. Especially, since this movie will be the the last chapter in the Skywalker saga. The world needs to see a Jedi and a Time Lord together, in any frickin' capacity.

For those unfamiliar, both Carrie Fisher and Mark hamill are returning as Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker, alongside Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and  Keri Russell, in an unspecified roleThey'll join Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita N'yong'o and Anthony Daniels.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
