I'm The Gandalf, Bitch! Sir Ian McKellen Wants To Play A Wizard Again!

Hello nerds!

A few weeks ago, we heard reports of a Lord of the Rings series being produced by Amazon, and instantly we started drooling over the possibility of a return trip to Middle Earth. As it so happens, Gandalf himself is also looking forward to it.

Sir Ian McKellen recently appeared on Graham Norton's BBC Radio 2 show and was asked if it was going to be annoying to have another Gandalf around. Well, judging by his response, it seems that Sir Ian isn't keen on sharing the name Gandalf.

What the shit? Love him, just oh so much. I think that we're pretty much guaranteed that we're not done seeing Sir Ian McKellen done playing one of my three favorite wizards. Now, the only issue to consider is the source material for this new series. Tolkien fans the world over, our time is now to rejoice, because the series will "explore new storylines preceding Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring". So, obviously I presume this means The Silmarillion.

That's quite the presumption, I know, but regardless of the source material this show is going to be gargantuan. Rumor has it Amazon paid a cool $200 million - $250 million upfront rights fee, and when you consider they multi-season commitment, it's not that much of a stretch to see Amazon shelling out some dough to secure the return of Sir Ian McKellen.

I know that some of you are saying that he wasn't in The Silmarillion, but he was around at the time (being old as fuck) and he could easily be folded into whatever story they choose to tell. If Amazon is trying to create the next epic, "Game of Thrones" tv show, they'll need all the star power they can muster and having an Academy Award-nominated wizard on board would just about do it.
