Hello nerds!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street are all horror franchises Platinum Dunes has tried to reboot. And if you've seen any or all of them, you know they failed. A lot. Well, in a surprising turn of events Platinum Dunes days in the reboot game are over. 

In an interview with CinePOP, one of the founders of Platinum Dunes, Brad Fuller, unequivocally stated they're done rebooting horror movies. 

Finally, right? Co-founder Andrew Form took it a step further and revealed the company will be looking to try and create new ideas, as opposed to recreating old ones. 

All of that's pretty interesting for several reasons. Platinum Dunes largely relied on horror remakes to get off the ground when they started back in the early 2000s, so them ditching the game plan is unexpected. Unexpected, but not all that surprising when you remember they're a company and they HAVE to make money. And as odd as originality is as a concept, it turns out it's also a good way to make money. And due to both the critical and financial success of A Quiet Place, Platinum Dunes seems to be headed down a more entertaining avenue. Thanks John Krasinski. 

As a horror fan, I'm pretty pleased with this announcement. As exciting as it was get to "new movies" from some of the most beloved horror franchises of all-time, the reboots were never on the same level as the originals. Let's hope since Platinum Dunes shelving the likes of Jason and Freddy that when the rights revert back to their respective studios, someone will be keen to make another sequel for one of them. Or both. Let's hope for both.
