John Cena Might Play Shazam And That's Not Terrible

Hello nerds!

As it so happens, maybe we all CAN see him... starring in WB/DC's Shazam!. According to That Hashtag Show, John Cena is pretty high up on the list of potential contenders to play the titular hero in the upcoming WB/DC film. In fact, it's apparently down to him and just one other guy,  Joshua Sasse (Galavant). Also, the we've got a synopsis for the movie.

Based on the DC Comics character “Shazam!” Billy Batson becomes Captain Marvel, the world’s mightiest mortal, when he says the magic word “Shazam! The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes. The wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury.

If John Cena does nab the part, it would in no way would be the worst casting choice that WB/DC has made and if you think about it, Cena playing Shazam is just about perfect. With comedic roles under his belt from such movies as Sisters and Tour de Pharmacy, and the WWE produced web series Southpaw Regional Wrestling, Cena has slowly strung together a few really good performances outside of the squared circle.

And those familiar with his career in the ring know that he can handle the action required to play a superhero, and the fact that he already looks like a mountain sculpted out of biceps always helps. Plus, Cena's acting career is going through a bit of a big push right now with starring roles in Bumblebee (the Transformers spinoff) and Daddy's Home 2. So his inclusion in the DCU doesn't really seem all that far fetched.

Nothing against Joshua Sasse, but if you're choosing between him and John Cena to play a gigantic, muscled superhero with the powers of the gods and the mind of a 13 year old kid, who are you going to pick? Exactly. And really, with the Rock already signed on to play Shazam's archnemesis, Cena's casting seems like a no-brainer.

So, allow me to answer the age old question by saying, "Yes, we can see you Mr. Cena.". Now suit up, you've got some superheroing to do.
