Johns Is Out & Hamada Is In. WB Conjures Up A New Beginning For The DC Films
Hello nerds!
In a surprising move for WB, producer Walter Hamada has been hired on as president of production of DC movies, which means he's replacing both Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, but Johns reportedly will stay on as DC’s president and chief creative officer and will work pretty closely with Hamada as an advisor for the cinematic franchise. Daaaaamn! It looks like Justice League‘s floppish reviews from both critics and audiences alike, have kickstarted the studio into action.
According to Variety, Walter Hamada is now the DCU's version of Marvel's Kevin Feige, and is in charge of getting the WB's DC projects turned the eff around. WB’s president and chief content officer, Toby Emmerich, heaped some heavy praise on Hamada and sounds pretty convinced that handing the reins over to him is definitely a step in the right direction.
Hamada, one half of New Line's “Team Genre” along with Dave Neustadter, is best known for his work on some of the most exceedingly entertaining horror movies of the past decade, to include The Conjuring franchise and IT. And since current Aquaman director, James Wan, has previously directed The Conjuring 1 and 2, maybe we can expect December’s solo outing for one Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, to help establish the new tone of the DC films.
Hamada's got a good knack for franchise building in the horror genre, so lets' hope the streak continues with his foray into the world of superheroes.
