Make No "Bones" About It. Karl Urban Wants To Play Dredd Again

Make No "Bones" About It. Karl Urban Wants To Play Dredd Again

Hello nerds!

Way back when, we told you about a potential Judge Dredd TV series, Mega-City One. Well, things got even more exciting a couple of months later when the man himself, Karl Urban, said he had  some talks to star in the show

Frickin' sweet, I know. Sadly, there has been ZERO word on this show since then. However, this lack of news hasn't dissuaded the last man to play the judge. from expressing his desire to return to the role.

While speaking at Trekonderoga, the star of a ridiculous amount of iconic franchises, expressed his interest in the project. Should it ever happen.

I’m not attached to it, although I did have a preliminary round of conversations with them. I am interested in doing it. There are a lot of great stories to tell there. It is up to them. I don’t know really where they are in the stages of development. If I get the opportunity, great, otherwise some else will do it, and we can all see some more Judge Dredd. I did read the comics when I was a kid, as I teenager I read Judge Dredd a lot.

Shit. That's a bummer given how utterly fantastic he was a the Judge in 2012's Dredd. And considering what the plot of the series will be, not including Urban would be quite a disappointment.

Their idea for Mega-City One is was basically to build the show around more rookie judges and young, new judges and Dredd would come in and out and I said that I’ll do it, but it has to be done in a meaningful way. I can’t just come on and grunt and pull faces, there has to be a story there for him. There has to be a kind of little arc and a story we are trying to tell. So, we will see what they do.

Let's hope the producers are paying attention, and they tap Karl Urban for a return. I would absolutely love to see him back as Judge Dredd. If you've only seen the 1995 lump of poo that is Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone and Rob Schneider, do yourselves a favor and give 2012's Dredd a go.

From top to bottom, 2012's Dredd is an amazing film and features some fantastic FX, breathtaking visuals and none other than Cersei Lannister herself, the great Lena Headey as Ma-Ma; a psychotic, drug-dealing kingpin. It's brilliant.

Mega-City One is still looking for a home and according to rumor, it's a strong possibility this one goes to a streaming service. More as it develops.
