McG-one. Masters of the Universe is looking for a new director

Hello nerds.

The "ever in development" remake of Masters of the Universe has all of a sudden started to gain some ground towards actually being made. Sony has announced an official release date of December 18, 2019. Not only that, but apparently the movie is also in need of someone to direct. McG, the guy behind such films as Terminator Salvation and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, will not be helming He-Man's return to the big screen. All in all, that's some pretty great news. Obviously, there's a turn and that comes courtesy of the rumored writer for the film.

According to EW, that writer is none other than David S. Goyer. I know. That butt gulp was my initial reaction as well. As a writer, it might be fair to say either he's hit or miss and never between the two shall meet. Goyer is responsible for such movies and shows as The Dark Knight, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Constantine (TV), Man of Steel and Batman Begins. I mean, wow. That's quite the list. The highs are really high and the lows are rubbing shoulders with gophers. So, let's hope he's on his game. He's the writer Eternia deserves, but maybe not the one it needs right now.

As bad as it is for all the right reasons, Masters of the Universe '87 will always be beloved to me. Dolph Lundgren is my He-Man and he leaves some hefty "almost" clothes to fill for the role of Eternia's protector.
