Raptor Daddy. Star-Lord. Super Thief? Chris Pratt Is Starring In The Saint Reboot

Hello nerds!

While his character is currently dust in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Pratt appears to be moving on to another possible franchise.

Per a report from Deadline, Pratt is in early discussions to star in a reboot of The Saint. For those unfamiliar, The Saint, based on the book series by Leslie Charteris, was first made into a film way back when in 1997 and it starred none other than my beloved Val Kilmer.

In the film, Kilmer played Simon Templar, a professional thief dubbed "The Saint" because he would go full-on Rick Baker and cover himself in prosthetics in order to pull off his heists, all the while using the names of Catholic saints as aliases. The original movie starring Val is fucking classic, because Val plays multiple fucking characters, each with its own unique accent; it’s as beautiful as you’re thinking, I might add. Well, as it goes these days, the film is being rebooted, but instead of starring “Franchise Viagra”, The Rock, Paramount is looking to Chris Pratt to fill the Kilmer-sized shoes.

Is a reboot of The Saint a film we needed or wanted? Not really, so the studio will really have to put something spectacular together to get audiences to see this one. Nothing against my Val, but the original film was supposed to be the first of many, and it failed miserably. The plot was more than a little far fetched and the supporting cast wasn’t too solid, so whomever is rebooting this has their work cut out for them. It’s likely the studio has eyes of building a franchise this time around as well, so it makes sense they’d look to an established “action” star to lead the franchise. As far as leading men go, you could do worse than Pratt, but still, I’m not sure about this one.

Pratt’s“star” has arguably never been higher, and with no director attached to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he’s got time to don some cheesy disguises and terrible accents to steal his way into saving the world. Let’s just hope they put some more effort into the writing this time around.
