Real Name, No Gimmicks. Obi-Wan Spinoff To Start Filming In 2019 & McGregor Returns?

Hello nerds!

If the rumors are true, Kenobi is return is imminent. It's as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in joy, and were suddenly silenced because they passed out from over-excitement. The Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff will reportedly be filming in Ireland sometime next year.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Star Wars creator George Lucas was in Belfast around Christmas to scout some locations, and it looks like Paint Hall Studios will serve as home for the production. That is once Game of Thrones done with the production of its final season.

No word yet on an official director, but a few months ago Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry was reportedly in talks to direct the anthology film. All in all, I think things are shaping up nicely for the yet untitled Obi-Wan standalone to hit theaters in 2020.

While plot details are nowhere to be found, odds are the movie will take place when Obi-Wan was already a Jedi, which we hope means Ewan McGregor would return to play him. Unfortunately, there's no official confirmation of McGregor's involvement, but there is evidence to support speculation that he will be "robing up" as the Jedi Master in the movie.

Oddly, this bit of "proof" of the Jedi Master's return is a picture posted by P90X creator Tony Horton. A couple of weeks ago, the fitness guru posted a pic which shows Ewan putting that work in and training his ass off.

Arguably, one could say McGregor is just getting it in and trimming up, following his more than solid Midwest Dad Bod from his role in Fargo. And normally I would agree with you, but holy shit! Take a gander at pic and you'll see he's sporting some pretty recognizable facial hair.

Come on! Obi-Wan is coming back! Ewan McGregor is coming back! Though it could turn out to just be a wild bantha chase.
