Rick Grimes Is Totally Going To Die. Plus, More Surprises From The Walking Dead SDCC Panel

Hello nerds!

During the panel for AMC's The Walking Dead at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Andrew Lincoln confirmed the rumors of this upcoming season being his last on the show are true. Oh, and don't forget this season will be this season will be Maggie's last as well. It sucks, I know considering both characters are very much alive in the comics. But at least they should go out with a bang, if the trailer is any indication.

The trailer for the 9th season of The Walking Dead gives a good look at life after "All Out War",  as the communities try and rebuild the world. Only to turn around and possibly tear it back down again with a possible civil war brewing and the arrival of The Whisperers.

If you listen close at 5:19 in the trailer, you can hear one of them speak, "Where are they?". Intrigued as fuck. That's where I am.

Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in because this season looks to be a return to form for the show.

Over the last few seasons, the ratings have been in a somewhat steady decline, so maybe big storyline, cast and crew shake ups are just what Dead needs to stay alive. I think the new direction could be pretty exciting. Especially, considering the addition of the new big bads, The Whisperers.

For those unfamiliar, The Whisperers are a group of savage survivors who have gone full-Leatherface and made masks out of the skins of Walkers, so they can stroll casually amongst the herd. This group then goes on to make Rick and the gang's lives a living hell, to include, but not limited to murdering a few of them. Oh shit! It should make for a few existing episodes and they've already cast the leader of The Whisperers, Alpha.

According to THRAcademy Award nominated British actress Samantha Morton has signed on to ruthless enigma in the new season of The Walking Dead. Also joining the cast are Nadia Hilker as Magna, Eleanor Matsuura as Yumiko, Zach McGowen as Justin, Rhys Coiro as play Jed, Brett Butler as play Tammy Rose, John Finn will play Tammy's husband Earl and one of my favs, Dan Fogler as Luke are all set to join the land of zombies in the upcoming season.

All in all, Rick and Maggie's last run is shaping up to be way more enjoyable than the last few seasons have been. Let's hope at least Maggie makes it through until the season finale. Word has it Andrew Lincoln's last 6 episode are indeed the first 6 episodes of the 9th season. At least we'll still have Michonne, Daryl, King Ezekiel, Carol, and to some extent Negan, to root for.

The only remaining question is how in the fuck will they kill off Rick Grimes and Maggie Rhee? $5 says it's death by Whisperer, but the possibility of a giant herd of Walkers is always a safe bet. Any takers?

AMC's The Walking Dead Season 9 premieres on October 7, 2018.
