Hello nerds!

If you’re a bit bitter about the version of Mr. J we got in The Suicide Squad, this teaser should help greatly. From director Todd Phillips, the aptly titled, Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Zazie Beetz looks like exactly the kind of movie we’ve been waiting for.

Joker is a story about Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck who has one bad day, or four, and is reborn as one of the most sadistic, evil geniuses to plague Gotham. This movie will adapt the superb, One Bad Day arc from the comics, which serves as one of the most fascinating and entertaining origin stories of all-time. And from the looks of the trailer, DC has got a truly amazing film on their hands.

Yowzers. Between this one, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, James Gunn taking over the Suicide Squad, and SHAZAM!, things are looking up. And it’s about damn time. Nothing against the Marvel movies, but DC has an untapped wealth of characters and stories could be made into compelling films and TV. So, it is nice to see WB/DC finally figuring their shit out.

Now, if they only they could fix the quagmires that are Superman, Batman, and The Flash, there would be a whole league of DC superheroes we could enjoy at the cinema. Until then, I suppose we’ll have to deal with the amazing movies they’ve delivered as of late, and will be doing so again later this year.

Joker is in theaters on October 4, 2019.
