The Future Of The Guardians Of The Galaxy Is Still Unclear!
Hello Nerds,
The House of Mouse (a.k.a. Disney) and Marvel Studios will not be bringing famed Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn back to direct Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. According to an article in Variety, both are standing firm, in the face of intense opposition, to their decision to fire Gunn in July.
James Gunn was taken off the project and fired by Disney nearly a month ago when dozens controversial tweets, which Gunn sent out nearly a decade ago, came to light.
In a show of support, Guardians of the Galaxy cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautistia, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker all signed a letter that urged Disney to reconsider and bring Gunn back. In fact, Dave Bautista has gone as far to threaten to quit the project in protest.
So what does this mean for the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise? Well, as the old saying goes, the show must go on. It will; however, these events could mean delays for the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is scheduled to be released in 2020. Disney and Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige, have not yet named a replacement director. Furthermore, they have not yet fully committed to utilizing Gunn’s script for the film.
Only time will tell if we get the the highly anticipated third installment to the Guardians franchise by 2020.
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 is still tentatively set to begin production in 2019.
