The Legend Continues In The New Trailer For Nia DaCosta's Candyman

Hello nerds!

An all-new trailer for director Nia DaCosta‘s Candyman has arrived, and it looks a truly terrifying continuation of the horror classic that is 1992’s Candyman, from Bernard Rose. For those unfamiliar, this film is a direct sequel to the original Candyman.

In Candyman (2021), we head back to Cabrini-Green, where we meet artist Anthony McCoy, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Anthony is trying to dig up the truth behind the legend of Candyman, but as a result, Anthony unwittingly causes his return. That, and he might be next in line to become the the legend himself. Which, given the events of the original film’s ending, just might be his destiny. Fans of the 1992 film will recall, Anthony is the baby that was stolen by Tony Todd’s Candyman who was then rescued by Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) at the end of the first film.

As for the trailer itself, we get a new take on the Candyman mythology, explaining the previous Candyman was a Black man known for giving candy out around the neighborhood, who is brutally murdered by the police, after being accused of a crime he did not commit. The trailer strongly hints “Candyman” isn’t just one man, but rather “Candyman is the whole damn hive.”. Which is terribly intriguing, as it honors Tony Todd‘s Candyman aka Daniel Robitaille, while allowing the franchise to start fresh and the legend of “Candyman” to be passed on.

Speaking of Tony Todd, while he doesn’t feature in the trailer, we do know he is in fact in the movie. Prepare to be frightened.

Written by Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld, Candyman starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Colman Domingo and Tony Todd hacks into theaters in August 27, 2021.

For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II; HBO’s Watchmen, Us) and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris; If Beale Street Could Talk, The Photograph), move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials.

With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer (Colman Domingo; HBO’s Euphoria, Assassination Nation) exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.

We sat down and watched some stuff. And then talked about it.

Nicolas cage's new movie is "Taken with a side of bacon",  Harrison Ford might be too old for this shit, and the first 3 episodes of the time-travelling traverse through the MCU that is Marvel's Loki.

Enjoy!
