Their Shows Are Cancelled, Now Let's Talk Spinoff. Are The Heroes For Hire On Their Way?

Hello nerds!

In a surprise move, Marvel and Netflix have announced the cancellation of yet another show. Luke Cage has been canceled after two seasons, joining the recently axed Iron Fist. Is this the end for the Heroes for Hire?

While details are scarce, Deadline reports the show was cancelled due “creative differences” between Netflix and Marvel. And in a joint statement, the entertainment companies indeed confirm there would be no new solo adventures for Luke Cage on Netflix.

Well, shit.

Shit. Again. It seems the best way for a Marvel show to get cancelled on the streaming service is to be a good one.

The second seasons of Luke Cage and Iron Fist were absolutely great, so both shows could easily have received a third season, much like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. But alas, it is not to be had. However, their shows are cancelled doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Luke Cage and Iron Fist. In fact, Mike Coulter and Finn Jones both seem to tease they’re not done with the characters just yet.

I mean as rad as seeing these two team up for their own show would be, it just doesn’t make any sense given where each show ended. Having said that, there’s no reason Disney won’t be giving Luke Cage and Danny Rand a soft reboot on the Disney streaming service.

I think the writing’s on the wall that Disney will put forth as little effort as possible into further Marvel shows on Netflix; outside of the currently in production Jessica Jones Season 3 and The Punisher Season 2. Their current licensing deal with Netflix expires soon, which means any Marvel or Disney property currently on Netflix will eventually shift over to the Disney streaming service.

So, if you haven’t yet watched the utterly fantastic third season for The Man Without Fear, you should. It sees the return of Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin and the Marvel/Netflix debut of Bullseye. Treat yourselves and watch it before this one gets the big, ugly axe as well.

While I fully expect all of The Defenders to be featured in all-new series on Disney’s streaming service, where they’d join the newly announced series for both Scarlet Witch and Loki, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston, only time will tell.

If we’re lucky, we may yet get a Heroes For Hire show. And while they’re at it, how about a Daughters of the Dragon spinoff?
