They're Just Your Friendly Neighborhood Symbiote. Here's A New Trailer For Venom!
Hello nerds!
Just when I thought maybe Sony had their shit together, they go ahead and release the full trailer for Venom. After yesterday's leaks from CinemaCon, Sony followed the established protocol of releasing the HD version of the footage online. And is it turns out, it's the full trailer that kind of spoils the amazingness of the leaked "We are Venom" scene.
As cool as this trailer looks and sounds, full-on Venom might not be enough to save this one. From Tom Hardy's questionable accent, to the whackass origin story, Sony appears to have dropped the proverbial ball on this one.
Spider-Man has a long and complicated history with the symbiote and Eddie, especially when those two team-up to take on Peter. This history and all of their battles created some truly fucking compelling storytelling and it's a disservice to the characters to ignore completely it.
Now, I know we've only seen a couple of trailers, but need I remind you the trailers Sony put out for EVERY Spider-Man film they've done and, with the exception of Homecoming, most of them are shit. I've got a feeling Sony can really only "comic book movie", when under the watchful eye of Marvel. How about you?
Venom swings their way into theaters on October 5, 2018.
P.S. Here's the official poster. Yes, I know it looks cool.
