Watchmen Writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour Is Set To Pen The Script For Marvel's Blade

Hello nerds!

Not only is Marvel’s Phase 4 is headed towards the multiverse, but it’s also leaning quite heavily into the mystical and supernatural. Which happens to be my favorite part of Marvel comics. So, when the reboot of Blade was announced, I was very intrigued. Especially, since it stars 2 time Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali. And now there’s even more reason to look forward to the return of Blade to the big screen.

Per a report from THR, after an extensive six-month search (that star Ali was directly involved in) Marvel Studios has signed Primetime Emmy-nominee Stacy Osei-Kuffour to write the screenplay for Blade. Osei-Kuffour is now the first Black female writer to pen a Marvel movie. For those unaware, she was a writer and story editor on HBO's Watchmen; which was one of the best shows of 2019, and for good reason.

The all-star cast and great performances aside, the story Watchmen told about the human-side of superheroes, and the parallels it drew between the ugliness and beauty of society was utterly compelling. And that’s largely due to the writing. In the same year Marvel’s Endgame was released, Watchmen stands as a highlight of the superhero genre. So, I’m quite excited to see the story Stacy Osei-Kuffour and Mahershala Ali bring to life for one of Marvel’s more adult properties.

Further details about the movie are scarce, but since there’s a star and a writer, it stands to reason an announcement about a director has to be next. Let’s hope that happens soon, so we don’t have to wait too terribly long for the return of The Daywalker.
