Well, this was unexpected. Joss Whedon is bringing Batgirl into the DCEU!

Per a report from Variety, Joss Whedon is close to signing a deal that would see him bring one of Batman's pupils to the big screen as he's set to write, produce and direct of Warner Bros.' Batgirl

Whedon is nearing a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled Batgirl pic for Warner Bros. as part of its DC Extended Universe.

No other producers are currently attached. Toby Emmerich, president and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Pictures Group is overseeing with Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. The new project originated in the past month.

Holy freaking awesome! No details yet on casting, or which version of Batgirl we're going to see, but without a doubt Whedon is the right choice. Maybe DC is finally ready to get on track. Adding Whedon is in no way a negative and his presence can only serve to improve any and all aspects of crafting the DCEU he's involved with.

The track record he brings to this movie and universe by extension is ri-effing-diculous. From Firefly, to Buffy, to the MCU, Whedon boasts the kind of resume a studio looking to salvage its franchise both deserves and needs right now.

What do you think? Is this great news or is it great news? Who would you pick to play Batgirl and which version do you want to see? So many questions and zero bad feelings. Bravo DCEU.
