Who Wants To Play A Game? Chris Rock Is Rebooting Saw

Hello nerds,

The adventures of demented genius and serial killer, Jigsaw, are going to be reimagined for an all-new Saw movie that will hopefully reboot the franchise. Which is kind of surprising, considering they just made another sequel in 2017. And it was a financial success.

OK, maybe Saw being rebooted it’s not all that surprising given the gargantuan amounts of cash its films have pulled in (over $450 million, box office). Studios like to make money and it’s easier to reboot an existing property, than it is to create a new one.

One thing that might be a bit surprising about a Saw reboot, is comedy icon Chris Rock is the driving force it. As it so happens, Rock is a longtime fan of the films, and he sounds downright eager to get into the world of Jigsaw and expand on it.

I’m into it. Chris Rock has had a hugely successful career, both in front of and behind the camera, so considering that he’s coming into this reboot as a fan of the franchise, is a huge comfort.

And from what Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake had to say about Chris Rock’s pitch, he could be the spark that starts the raging inferno that will be Jigsaw’s next game.

Bring that shit.

The Saw franchise offered some of the most creative and gore-tastic scenes of any horror franchise, and its films hauled in tremendous amounts of cash for the studio. So, it was only a matter of time before Saw joined the ranks of others that were rebooted such as Child’s Play, Pet Sematary, Candyman, and IT. But, unlike some of its contemporaries, I think Saw could do well with a fresh spin on the mythos.

The untitled Saw film is currently scheduled for release on October 23, 2020.

Saying goodbye to Game of Thrones, Robert Pattinson could be the Bat (which isn't terrible), the grim hilarity of Rick & Morty, re-visiting the Motor City Comic-Con, and the soothing melodies of Kiefer Sutherland. #NotEnoughWhimsy
