You Can't Keep A Good Guy Down, But You Can Reboot Him. A Child's Play Remake Is Coming

Hello nerds!

In an effort to reboot a franchise that isn't quite dead, MGM is remaking the 1988 classic, Child’s Play.

According to a report from Collider, Lars Klevberg is set to direct the movie, based on a script by Tyler Burton Smith. David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, who produced the reboot of Stephen King's IT, will serve in those same roles on this one. With the movie is being guided by hack Seth Grahame-Smith, how could this remake of a still viable franchise fail? Easily, when you consider the a "dream team" involved and the new direction the story is going.

This film does appear to be an actual reboot of the franchise, as it's almost starting over from scratch with the lore of Chucky. I say almost, because the reboot is said to focus on a group of kids who face off against a "technologically-advanced doll". Think Goonies/Monster Squad/Stranger Things vs Chucky/I, Robot. Definitely sounds stupid. Production on the remake is slated to start in September in Vancouver. So,  MGM is really eager to get this thing into theaters. Hooray.

Meanwhile, creator Don Mancini's recently announced TV series, that will continue the story that came before it in Child's Play 1 & 2, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky. Yes, you read that correctly. Both a TV series, which continues the original story, and a film that reboots it, will be coming out at or around the same time. It's a real sh*t show, I know.

As for me, I'm all for the creator is doing a TV series that continues the story we all know and love; using the returning cast of Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent and Jennifer Tilly. Especially, since at the End of Curse of Chucky, they teased the return of Catherine Hicks as Karen Barclay and Chris Sarandon as Detective Mike Norris.

However, am I excited for this unnecessary, and frankly unwanted, reboot from the guys partially responsible for Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter and The Hard Times of RJ Berger that features a killer doll complete w/downloadable app? No, not really.

How about you?
