Professor Broom Is Intimidating As F*ck! Ian McShane Is Hellboy's Father
Hello nerds!
According to THR, one of the few people who can simultaneously be fiercely intimidating and surprisingly lovable, Ian McShane, has been cast as Professor Broom in Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen and instantly the tone of Neil Marshall's Hellboy reboot is shifting into "gives no fucks".
The perennial badass takes over the role of Anung Un Rama's adoptive father, from the late John Hurt in Guillermo del Toro's first Hellboy movie. Fans of the GDT Hellboy franchise hold Hurt close to their hearts and for good reason. As Professor Broom, Hurt made you truly feel the bond between a father and son and the lengths they'd go. Obviously, the fantastic Ron Perlman is a huge part of that chemistry, but if you've ever seen Hurt in anything else, you know how much that dude could act. He was masterful. McShane has some big shoes to fill, but I love his chances.
Fans of Mike Mignola's much-loved comic have to be freaking out, in the best possible way, over how the cast of this movie is shaping up. No offense to Ron Perlman or the GDT films, but between David Harbour playing Hellboy and Ian McShane as one of the founding fathers of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, as a wise man once said, "Business is about to pick up.".
Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen starts production next month in the UK and Bulgaria.
