Better Than Leto? First Official And Unofficial Looks At Joaquin Phoenix "Suited Up" As The Joker

For many of us, when I hear the word “Joker”, images featuring the likes of the great Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill, Heath Ledger and Cameron Monaghan leap to mind. Well, the latest person to lay claim to the tile, Clown Prince of Crime, is Joaquin Phoenix in director Todd Phillips’ aptly titled, Joker.
For those unfamiliar, the film is set in the “Elseworld Universe”, meaning it will have no connection to the current iteration of the “Prime Universe”, where… Jared Leto… currently holds the mantle of Joker, which is why fans have been clamoring for a more comic accurate version of the character.
Well, look no further friends, as Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix just may be working on a truly amazing story, with a version of the iconic villain fans of the comic books, and to an extent, the Nolan movies are sure to like.
Courtesy of the WB Pictures Twitter, we’ve got some test footage which features the first official look at Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck who has “One Bad Day” and is reborn as one of the most sadistic and beloved characters in all of popular culture. In full frickin’ clown makeup!
Oh shit dude! It’s brief, but terribly intriguing. And for those saying this could just be a starting point, you very well could be right. However, thanks to some leaked photos from the production of the film, this version of the Joker will definitely be in the movie.
The leaked images show The Joker/Arthur, exiting a subway train and after seemingly starting a riot, he immediately flees the area; and enjoyed the shit out of it.
Love that Joker.
The real question is, will it be the only version we see or will he shift to a more comic accurate makeup for the iconic Batman villain? Either way, I’m excited as shit for this movie.
Hopefully, this film is a huge success and spurs many other standalone films. DC comics is overflowing with amazing stories that could be told in this universe. Let’s hope the folks over at Disney/Marvel are paying attention. I really want to effing see Old Man Logan. The Elseworld Universe looks to be off to a great start with Joker, so let’s hope the Prime Universe gets their shit together.
Granted, the upcoming Aquaman and SHAZAM both look like they’ll be great films, as does Wonder Woman 1984, but with the loss of both Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight and affable beefcake Hank Cavill as Superman, the DC Prime Universe could soon find another rival in the superhero film industry in the Elseworld Universe.
