Forever and Ever! Ryan Coogler Developing A Wakanda Series For Disney+
Hello nerds!
Ryan Coogler, the writer and director of Marvel’s billion dollar blockbuster, Black Panther, will be very involved in the future of Wakanda and other properties of the MCU. Which is nice.
According to Deadline , Ryan Coogler signed a five-year deal for his company, Proximity Media, to develop several series for Disney’s various outlets. Additionally, along with taking us back to Wakanda by way of Black Panther 2, the report states Coogler will "tackle other Marvel Cinematic Universe shows." First up, a "drama based in the Kingdom of Wakanda" for Disney+. Coogler himself seems pretty happy about the deal.
Bob Iger, Executive Chairman of The Walt Disney Company, sounds just as stoked for Coogler sticking around to help guide the MCU.
This is awesome news. Coogler’s vision of Black Panther and Wakanda was superb, so having him involved in other parts of the MCU is exceedingly exciting.
Coogler is currently working on Black Panther 2, so it’s likely we won’t see the new Wakanda series premiere for quite some time. Which is understandable, given the rather large task ahead of him with Black Panther 2 and determining how to proceed with the story following the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman as King T'Challa aka Black Panther, after his untimely passing.
Much like Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Chadwick Boseman is irreplaceable as Black Panther, but if anyone is up to the task of bringing the franchise forward while honoring what Boseman brought to the character, it’s Coogler. The future of Wakanda is in excellent hands, and having Coogler involved in other MCU properties is utterly awesome.
Here’s hoping the new series will explore Wakanda’s history, the discovery of Vibranium, and the origin of the very first Black Panther.
Black Panther 2 is currently slated for a 2022 release, with production set to begin this summer.
