Good Guy, Bad Reboot. The Trailer For The Child's Play Remake Is Vastly Underwhelming

Hello nerds!

In an effort to reboot a franchise that isn't quite dead, MGM is remaking the 1988 classic Child’s Play, and we’ve got the first teaser. No need to brace yourselves for terror, much like the use of CGI/practical FX combo over straight practical FX for Chucky, the trailer is disappointing.

For those unfamiliar, this reboot of the cult classic franchise will focus on a group of kids who face off against a "technologically-advanced doll". Think Goonies vs a Ginger mini-Terminator. Plus, the reboot was written and directed by some of the minds responsible for such classic pieces of cinema as Dark Shadows, and Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter.

And not to mention, the voice of the new Chucky in the reboot is being kept quiet for now. So, whomever it is has got some insanely big shoes to fill following what the great Brad Dourif did with the role of Chucky; both as the pitch perfect voice of the murderous moppet and the “IRL” avatar, Charles Lee Ray.

All in all, considering Child’s Play creator Don Mancini won’t even attach his name to this one, I think I’ll pass on the reboot for now and instead get my new Chucky fix via Don Mancini's Child’s Play TV series, that continues the story of the Child's Play franchise, with nearly the entire cast from those films. Brad Dourif included. For reals.

Child’s Play slices its way into theaters on June 21, 2019.

Thoughts on fantastic second season of The Punisher, Walter White returns in the Breaking Bad movie, Netflix's Bandersnatch is wildly entertaining, Norma Bates & Frank Castle are Tony Soprano's parents and Sylvester Stallone is writing a movie about Edgar Allan Poe. #BetterThanCusack
