Nicolas Cage Channels His Inner-Voorhees In Mandy

Hello nerds!

Who's got two thumbs and brand-new film that looks amazing? Nicolas Cage, that's who! For those unaware, Mandy written and directed by Panos Cosmatos, starring Nicolas Cage and Andrea Riseborough sounds like it's exactly my kind of movie.

Set in 1983, Cage plays Red Miller, a broken and haunted man, who hunts the unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life.

We've got full Rage Cage vs a cult? I can just go ahead and pre-order this thing on Blu-ray, because there is zero chance I won't own this and watch it on a weekly basis. For further proof this could be one of the greatest movies of all-time, Nicolas Cage revealed some aspects of his performance were inspired by horror icon Jason Voorhees.

In an interview with EW, Cage explained that he and director Panos Cosmatos decided that when Red Miller goes full-on Paladin, Cage should look to the hockey mask wearing slasher from the Friday the 13th franchise.

Before he drinks that supernatural drug, or whatever it is, his fighting style is more ferocious, is more cat-like and feral. Whereas after the drug, there’s a transformation where he becomes almost like a golem, the ancient Jewish golem that was a supernatural statue that came to life. And I think Panos wanted that, he wanted me to be almost like Jason-esque, you know, from those horror films that were so popular. Panos and I really both decided what the graph of the performance would be. How much more Jason-esque is he there? Or like a statue there? We built this both together.

So, after Red Miller downs some kind of magical potion, he slips into a berserker rage and goes all unstoppable killing machine. There are not enough fucking "yays" in existence to portray how excited I am for this.

Admittedly, I have adored nearly every Nicolas Cage movie I've seen. He is a master of his own unique brand of acting and is always entertaining; even if it's a detriment to the movie he's in. But I mean, that's the point of hiring him. Right?

Mandy is in Theaters September 14, 2018.
