The Reboot Of Stephen King's Pet Sematary Finds Its Rachel Creed

The matriarch of the Creed family has been found.

Amy Seimetz (Faris from Alien: Covenant) will play the female lead in the reboot of Stephen King's Pet Sematary. She'll be joining Jason Clarke as Dr. Louis Creed and the icon, John Lithgow, is set to play Jud Crandall. Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, the writers and directors of Starry Eyes, will take on those same roles for this film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Steven Schneider producing. 

I've got to admit, as a fan of the belovedly creepy original, this reboot is really starting to intrigue me. Granted, the original film is far from perfect, but you'd be hard pressed to find better horror entertainment than vintage 80s/90s Stephen King; in print or live action. This reboot has some fairly big, scary shoes to fill, but I like their chances. So far. The biggest factor in determining this reboot's reception will be how they hand the FX. On top of a couple of really good performances in it, the original film boasts some brilliant practical FX, so let's hope they steer clear of CGI as much as they can.

Going full CGI would be a true disservice to a truly chilling story. Hands down the greatest horror movies of all-time have gone practical. There's a visceral look and "feel" practical FX have that CGI just can't quite capture and for a story about creepy undead children & demon-pets, you've got to go visceral, baby.

Happily, the release of the film has been bumped up 2 weeks, so now Pet Sematary will be in theaters on April 5, 2019.

After the tragedy of their cat being killed by a truck, they resort to burying it in the mysterious pet sematary which is definitely not as it seems as it proves to the Creeds that a pet isn’t just for life.”
