Amazon Is Getting Barbaric! A Conan TV Series Is In Development!
Hello nerds!
Between all of its spectacular original series they currently have, and the ones they're developing, It seems as Amazon is downright fucking determined to be a major force in the entertainment game. And as if all of that wasn't enough, Amazon is now set to bring one of the most savage literary creations of all-time back to life. Yes friends, shit is about to get barbaric because the character that helped launch a shy young man named Arnold Schwarzenegger to stardom is returning. Conan is headed to TV.
In a surprising bit of news, Deadline is reporting, the beloved Robert E. Howard character is set for an all-new TV series at Amazon, and is being developed by Colony co-creator Ryan Condal, Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik and the executive producer of both Fargo and The Handmaid’s Tale, Warren Littlefield. The reason the news is surprising is because last we knew, Arnold Schwarzenegger was trying to get a Conan the Barbarian revival going of his own. Funnily enough, Arnold too is getting a show on Amazon. (It's a Western. We'll talk later.)
Fans of the books will be particularly pleased with the Amazon project, because it will be taking the barbarian warlord back to his roots.
As someone who grew up with Conan, I'm quite interested in this show. Amazon has been producing some real quality entertainment, and with the right actor to swing the sword, Conan could serve as a more than viable Game of Thrones substitute.
And speaking of Game of Thrones, I know the ill-fated 2011 reboot starring Jason Momoa still lingers with the taste of yuck, but I would argue that Momoa was a good Conan in a bad Conan movie. And given how much more he's done with his career since then, I could scarcely think of anyone better suited to be the one to crush his enemies and see them driven before him.
