Come To Us, Cousin of Kal-El. A WB/DC Supergirl Movie Is In Development
Hello nerds!
In a surprising bit of news, a full-length feature film starring the Last Daughter of Krypton is on the way. Well, another feature film. Technically, this is a reboot of 1984's Supergirl starring Helen Slater.
According to Deadline, Oren Uziel will write the script for WB/DC's Supergirl and that's about the extent of the details provided. While it's a bit of a bummer not having a director or star attached at this time, fans of Kara Zor-El are likely over the moon with this news. Fans of the entire slew of DC films should be stored as well.
In keeping with the new lighter and more fun tone of the DCEU, Supergirl is an obvious choice to join the ranks of Aquaman, SHAZAM and the Flash to bring the fun to the gloomy franchise. From the trailers we've seen for SHAZAM and Aquaman, it's clear WB is taking a more "Marvel" approach and trying to interject some fantasy and hope into their movies about superheroes, as opposed to nothing but doom and gloom. Even if we probably won't see Kara on screen for quite a while.
Between The Joker, Birds of Prey, The Batman and The Flash, the DC slate is a bit full through 2020. And with that being said, it's likely we won't see Supergirl on the big screen until 2021, but we can hope for sooner.
Besides, the likelihood Man of Steel 2 actually happens is pretty slim. So, if you're jonesing for more of Hank Cavill wearing the cape, it's a strong possibility Superman shows up to welcome his cousin to Earth.
