Can You Smell What Castle Rock Is Cooking? Season 2 Confirmed
Hello nerds!
If you're a fan of the utterly superb Hulu Original series, Castle Rock, then you'll likely be pretty pleased to hear the show has officially been renewed for a new season. According to a report from THR, the series set in the "Stephen King Universe" will be back another season on the streaming service. The words "No shit" come to mind.
Castle Rock is now "most successful first-season original launch in terms of consumption and reach on the day of its July 25 premiere", which is impressive to say the least. However, even what's even more impressive is the "series also has the highest view-through rates for a Hulu original in its first and second week since its launch". In other words, it's popular as fuck. And for good reason.
The show's current setting is the town of Castle Rock, Maine and nearby Shawshank Prison (Yes, THAT Shawshank). For those unfamiliar, more than one Stephen King tale takes place in this dreary little hamlet (Cujo, Needful Things), so it's the perfect setting for this original series.
Castle Rock created by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, focuses on attorney Henry Deaver, played by André Holland, who is summoned back to Castle Rock to represent a mysterious prisoner of Shawshank State Prison, IT's Bill Skarsgärd. Well, this show being set in the Stephen King universe, a macabre mystery begins to unfold that involves from his past that involves Henry's mother Ruth (Sissy Spacek), former Castle Rock sheriff Alan Pangborn (Scott Glenn) and childhood friend Molly Strand (Melanie Lynskey). This cast is nothing short of frickin' fantastic, and I didn't even mention Jane Levy or Joan Cusack who also appear in the series. Sadly though, it seems as this amazing group of folks might not return for next season.
Well, they might not return as the center of the story. As it turns out, Castle Rock is an anthology and creator Dustin Thomason doesn't exactly close the door on the cast from the first season returning later on. In one way or another.
No word yet on when we can expect the second season of Castle Rock, but given how incredible the first season has been, I'm ready for more. And speaking of more, it's quickly becoming one of my biggest wishes that the second season of the show moves on down the road to Ludlow, Maine; the home to the one and only Pet Sematary. I know there's a reboot of the movie underway, so maybe a return to the Overlook Hotel is long overdue since we'll be catching up with The Shining in a manner of speaking when Doctor Sleep starring Ewan McGregor as Danny Torrance hits theaters.
