F*ck Yeah, It's Spooky! The Trailer For DC's Swamp Thing Has Arrived
Hello nerds!
James Wan’s return to live-action adaptations of DC Comics is here and it’s a swampy, spooky ass delight. Swamp Thing on the DC Universe streaming service is the next property the director is producing, and from the looks of the first trailer, Wan’s horror roots are a kind of perfect for one of the more unique comic book characters out there.
For those unfamiliar, “Swamp Thing,” is about a scientist, Dr. Alec Holland, who is out to save the planet. And in doing so, he’s in the swamps of Louisiana performing experiments, when he is “killed” by an explosion caused by ecological terrorists who were trying to steal Holland’s research.
After he was blown into the swamp, via some chemical and supernatural means, Holland is transformed into an magical, immortal, plant-man who is the protector of the environment. Think Groot mixed with Captain Planet, and a dash of Dr. Strange. It’s the dog’s bollocks.
Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Andy Bean as Dr. Alec Holland, Derek Mears as Swamp Thing itself. And the rest of the cast is just as intriguing, and features such names as Virginia Madsen, Jennifer Beals, Will Patton, Ian Ziering, Maria Sten, and Jeryl Prescott. Plus, there’s a special appearance from Kevin Durand.
Directed by Len Wiseman, showrunners Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman writing the series, with Michael Clear and James Wan serving as executive producers, this series has the potential to be one of DC Universe’s best shows. Especially, if there’s a chance John Constantine could appear.
Also, I’m hoping the vague “special appearance” by Kevin Durand means he’s playing this universe’s Lobo. Dare to dream.
Swamp Things premiers on DC Universe on May 31, 2019.
