Guess Who's Back? Back Again? Spider-Man Returns To The MCU!
Hello friends!
In a strange twist, to an already strange story, in one of the strangest weeks of a strange year, it turns out Disney and Sony have reached a new deal that will see Peter Parker aka Spider-Man stay alongside his fellow Avengers in the MCU. Strange news, but terrific nonetheless.
A few weeks ago, it was announced that following the big box office success of Spider-Man:Far From Home, the working relationship between Sony and Marvel had ended; due to Disney and Sony being unable to reach a deal about exactly how much money each would make from the wall-crawler’s live-action movies. It stung, but after some time we started to heal and grow. As it so happens that was all for not.
Per Variety, Disney and Sony announced that Marvel Studios and president Kevin Feige, will produce the next film in the Sony Spider-Man series. And star Tom Holland will be back as Peter Parker. Plus, we’ll see Spider-Man in at least one more MCU movie. The exact details of the deal between Disney and Sony aren’t yet known, but at this point who cares? We’ve got our Spider-Man back, for an undetermined amount of time.
Head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, sound very pleased to get our friendly, neighborhood Spider-man back in the MCU. And he confirms Sony will indeed continue to build their separate Spider-Verse.
Oh, we’ve got a good idea of what the future holds. Spider-Man possibly coming face to face with Marvel’s first family, The Fantastic Four.
Producer Amy Pascal also released a statement confirming the return of Spidey to MCU.
This is pretty great news for those of us wondering how Spider-Man’s “Sony” story would continue. Especially, given the vast amount of ties they’ve established to the MCU in his standalone movies. So, at least we get to see a couple more interactions between Spider-Man and his MCU counterparts before he’s gone again. It’s very likely that we see some screen time between Venom and Spider-Man in the near future in the Sony-verse.
Spider-Man 3 (again) is set for release on July 16, 2021.
