Oh Hell, It's Clobberin' Time. The Official Trailer For Hellboy Reboot Is Here
Hello nerds!
If you enjoyed any of the Guillermo Del Toro Hellboy films that starred Ron Perlman, then this reboot from Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and director Neil Marshall starring David Harbour might likely make you smile. From the looks like of the trailer, Big Red hasn’t skipped a beat as we dive back into the world of monsters and our demon defender. This one looks to go heavy on the camp, CGI monsters and one-liners.
Grab some popcorn folks.
Ok, not terrible. I’ve watched it three times and I’ve smiled more and more each time.
Like any film these days that uses heavy CGI, the graphics in the trailer are a bit lacking, but there’s plenty of time for that to be fixed. As far as the tone of the reboot goes, this film definitely feels like it fist right in with the original films. Which isn’t bad, but let’s hope they don’t lean to much on what GDT did in his movies. Don’t get me wrong, the Hellboy films from the GDT films are fantastic, but word has it this reboot would be more like the comic book, which would be fucking amazing.
There’s definitely more humor in the trailer, which is in line with Mignola’s comic book and Neil Marshall is a great director who can handle large-scale, fantasy productions with his work from Game of Thrones and Westworld. So, this project is in good hands.
Speaking of hands, the RIght Hand of Doom is a bit cheesy in the footage, but overall I really like the updated look they’ve given Hellboy. David Harbour looks like he’s moving pretty well and he’s got one hell of a good voice. If you had to replace Perlman, Harbour is about you as perfect as a casting choice as you could ask for. Plus, we know it’s going to be a fun movie, since the trailer features a popular 80s song.
Hellboy smashes into theaters on April 12, 2019.
