The Sparkly Dark Knight? Robert Pattinson Might Be The Next Batman
Hello nerds!
We almost have our new Caped Crusader, and the names connected with the role of the titular hero in Matt Reeves’ forthcoming, The Batman, are surprising. And most of them would make for a pretty decent Bruce Wayne aka Batman, which would be a nice change of pace.
Per a report from THR, Robert Pattinson, is the leading choice to don the cowl, and he’s not alone. The handsome glitter-vampire is the current leading choice from a group that includes a couple of guys who are no strangers to comic book movies. X-Men’s Nicholas Hoult aka Beast and the man they used to call Kick-Ass, Aaron Taylor-Johnson are also in contention to play Batman. And for some fucking reason, Armie Hammer is also in the running.
While I always pictured Bruce Wayne as more of a Gryffindor/Ravenclaw hybrid, I’d much rather him be played by a Hufflepuff than the Lone Ranger. I just don’t have the strength to see Hammer star as one of the greatest comic book heroes of all-time. Any of the other names however, are very interesting choices that would for a make pretty decent Batman. But, as these things go, a hero is only as good as their villain and there could be plenty of those in Matt Reeves’ film.
And according to another rumor from THR, whomever suits up as the Dark Knight will have their hands full with more than one baddie they’ll have to bring to justice.
I realize the combo of the Penguin and Catwoman conjure thoughts of 1992’s Batman Returns, but out of all the villains who have plagued Gotham in the past few years, those two are somewhat fresh faces. At least they are on the big screen. Fans of my beloved Gotham have been spoiled with almost every Batman character ever created for the past few years, so seeing Oswald Cobblepot, and Selina Kyle show up in the motion pictures again is a bit of a treat.
With the loss of 3/6 of the original members of the Justice League, one has to wonder if this new Batman will appear in a future superhero teamup movie alongside Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Aquaman.
WB/DC’s The Batman is scheduled for release on June 25, 2021.
