Who Wants To Play A Game, Again? Here's The Trailer For Spiral: From The Book Of Saw

Hello nerds,

Ah, Spring. The smell of flowers, warm sunshine, a serial killer playing sadistic games with his victims and the police.

A while back, we learned Chris Rock would develop and star in a sequel/soft reboot of the Saw franchise. For those unfamiliar, the comedy legend was hoping to take the long-running in a fresh direction while honoring the films that came before it. All 8 of them. Well, from the looks of the trailer, he might be on to something.

Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, Spiral: From The Book Of Saw, tells the story of a Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his new partner (Max Minghella) as they begin investigating the grisly murders of a few of their fellow police officers. All of whom seem to have met their end by way of a Jigsaw copycat killer. Oh, and the killer has some sort of connection to Zeke’s father, a former police officer, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Intriguing, right?

Thankfully, Lionsgate has released a new trailer and we quickly learn Detective Banks can’t rely on anyone to help him solve this case, as it might be an inside job. Plus, there’s a ton of the usual traits of a Saw film; petrified folks trapped in puzzles from hell, the police being toyed with by the killer, someone donning that creepy-ass Pig mask, and there’s a new version of the Billy doll. This one is far scarier as it’s got a real, “I’m going to come to life and hunt you” vibe about it.

Starring Chris Rock, Max Minghella, and Samuel L. Jackson, Spiral: From The Book Of Saw hits theaters on May 14, 2021.

A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
