It's Lycanthropes And Laughs In The Trailer For Werewolves Within
Hello nerds,
As most horror fans are aware, it’s been quite some time since we’ve had a good werewolf movie come out, so fans of the genre are long overdue. Probably about 30 years overdue, but let’s not get into that now because a new horror-comedy from IFC films might just be lycanthrope movie we’re waiting for. And there’s a trailer.
Directed by Josh Ruben and based on the video game its named for, Werewolves Within is about a quaint town filled with odd people that is besieged by a killer, who is living amongst them. As it happens, this evildoer is a werewolf. So, it’s up to the townsfolk, led by their new park ranger, to solve the mystery and stop the supernatural killer in their tracks.
As for the trailer, sadly there’s not a glimpse of the werewolf itself, but there are a few familiar looking jump scares of the wolfy variety, and plenty of hilariously morbid jokes. Which given the comedy background of the film’s cast should be no surprise.
After watching the trailer, twice, my anticipation for this movie grew with each viewing. So, I’m looking forward to it. Here’s hoping they went with practical FX for the monster like the pinnacle of werewolf movies, An American Werewolf in London, and they avoid the mistakes of the CGI-shitfest that is An American Werewolf in Paris
Werewolves Within starring Sam Richardson, Milana Vayntrub, Harvey Guillén, Michaela Watkins, Michael Chernus and Cheyenne Jackson will have a limited theatrical release on June 25, before hitting VOD and Digital on July 2.
