No Avengers, Blade, A New Thor, The Fantastic Four, & More Announced At SDCC!

Hello nerds!

It might be fair to say that Marvel “won” this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, thanks to Phase 4 and Disney +.

The entire Phase 4 slate of films were announced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige at yesterday’s Hall H panel, and while not all have been given release dates, or casts, there are some terribly exciting films to look forward to. Especially, Blade starring 2 time Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali. Swoon, indeed!

Wow! Even with ZERO Avengers movies, that’s a pretty great lineup, with some fantastic stories to bring to life. And as Kevin Feige explains, with the Infinity Saga coming to en end with Spider-Man:Far From Home, the next phase will focus on new stories, and new characters. Out with the old, and in with the new Avengers.

We had a movie this year called Avengers: Endgame, and it is very much an ending, as you saw, to so many of those characters. So Phase 4 is about beginnings, and Phase 4 is about learning new things about characters you already think you know. [Like] Black Widow; meeting incredible new characters like The Eternals and Shang-Chi; going on new adventures with Doctor Strange and Thor; and these Disney+ shows which I promise will be spectacular and what no one is expecting.

I can’t wait to see where this all going. And for those wondering about all those forthcoming Marvel shows on Disney+, they’ve been given release dates as well.

All in all, I was not expecting a few of those films to be announced for Phase 4. And so far, the only thing that can be surmised about the overarching story, is that it’s enigmatic.

Before Disney fired him, James Gunn was planning out the Cosmic MCU for the next phase, but from the looks of the upcoming slate, the MCU is headed towards the mystical, and supernatural.

And that’s fucking great.
