Fourth Time's A Charm? The Fantastic Four Are Getting Re-Re-Rebooted

Hello nerds!

I’ve long dreamt of the day when I could present you with some good news about the Fantastic Four, and that very day is upon us.

According to a rumor from GWW, Marvel’s first family could indeed be heading to theaters. Again. For those unfamiliar, the most recent versions of the Fantastic 4 were presented courtesy of 20th Century Fox. And we all know how those films turned out. However, since this will be Marvel Studios’ first actual attempt at trying to bring their characters to life, we’ll cut them all the slack.

Per the report, Marvel is looking to have a familiar director in charge of bringing Reed & Sue Richards, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm back to the big screen this time around. And speaking of time, much like the good Captains before them (America and Marvel), the Fantastic Four is rumored to be taking place in the past.

The GWW is hearing, but cannot confirm, that Marvel Studios is aiming for a 2022 release for the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot. Sources also say that ‘Ant-Man’ director Peyton Reed is pushing to direct, and has already pitched his vision for the movie to Feige multiple times. Reed’s pitch includes a 1960s setting that involves the Quantum Realm, and possibly The Black Knight.

Reed has publicly stated his interest in setting a ‘Fantastic Four’ movie in the 60s, even going so far as to pitch to Fox when they had the rights.

As much as I would adore to see the X-Men be the first former Fox franchise to re-appear in the proper MCU alongside the other Marvel heroes, a proper Fantastic Four movie is way too intriguing of a concept to ignore.

Much like they did for Spider-Man, Marvel is the only choice when it comes to saving the Fantastic Four. Especially, if that means we’ll at long last get to see a fully-realized version of one of the greatest comic book villains of all-time; Doctor Victor Von Doom.

Although, following that delightful Baxter Building tease in the last season of Iron Fist, I figured they were a sure thing for their own Netflix series. But since the cancellation of every Marvel show on Netflix, I guess it’s back to the big screen for the 4.

Of course, there is always the chance some of the Defenders make their way to Disney+ with our new Captain America, Loki, and Scarlet Witch and Vision, but I digress.

With a bunch of as of yet announced films slated for release between May 1, 2020 and July 29, 2022, Marvel’s return to Hall H at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con should be quite the spectacle.
