And Murdock Makes 4. The New Season Of Daredevil To Premiere On Netflix This Year
Hello nerds!
2018 is the year for the continued solo adventures of Marvel's The Defenders on Netflix. We've already seen new seasons from Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Iron Fist Season 2 is set to premiere next month, and now it surprisingly turns out, the third season of Daredevil will be out this year as well.
During their Q2 earnings call, Netflix CFO David Wells let slip that, amongst other shows, Daredevil would be returning in 2018.
Holy crap! This is one hell of a year for live-action superhero entertainment, but in no way did I see the new season of Daredevil premiering this year. I thought it was a lock for the Disney streaming service.
For those unfamiliar, Disney is launching its own streaming service in 2019, and it already boasts an embarrassment of riches. The service will feature TV shows and movies from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and now Fox (fucking Avatar and the returning Marvel properties). Shit that's amazing. Netflix's deal to stream Disney movies is up at the end of 2019, so we should expect to see the mass exodus of Disney owned shit leaving Netflix to take place shortly thereafter.
The switch will hurt for Netflix, but Disney will quickly become one of the premier streaming services to have. However, that doesn't mean Marvel is phoning it in for their last few shows left to debut before then. Even though the second seasons of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage both suffered a bit from the Marvel lag in the middle, both ended of very well; Luke Cage in particular.
And in what what could be looked at as an effort to tighten up the storytelling, Iron Fist's second season is only going to be 10 episodes, instead of the usual 13. Plus, there's still a lot to look forward from the new seasons of Iron Fist and Daredevil.
The second season of Iron Fist, which debuts next month, features the Danny vs Davis brawl that determined who would face the dragon Shou-Lao. And not to be outdone, the third season of Daredevil will see the return of Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin and the Marvel/Netflix debut of Bullseye. And if all that wasn't exciting enough, the third season of Daredevil is rumored to adapt the Born Again comic arc. Should be a great way to end 2018. Don't worry too much about a lack of new Marvel shows in 2019.
The Punisher was officially renewed for a second season. The only question that remains is which streaming service will host the latest adventures of Frank Castle, Disney or Netflix?
